I tried again, but the next time I tried to log in the login screen froze completely - IE, when I entered one letter of my password it was deleted the next second, the same happening when I attempted to shut down from the screen it simply flashed black and returned to how it was. I restarted in safe mode and attempted a system restore, which seemed successful until I logged in and it told me it couldn't be completed. Spyware removed a few items as usual, but soon after this my laptop became unresponsive, and I had no choice but to force a shut down. Fearing malware I disabled my internet connection and ran a virus/spyware scan. Yesterday evening I received several alerts telling me that various processes had stopped working and had shut down.
